Renowned actor Govinda sustained a bullet injury to his leg this morning when he accidentally misfired his licensed revolver. The 60-year-old actor was quickly rushed to Criticare Hospital near his Juhu residence, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with a wound located under his knee. After an hour-long surgery, the bullet was successfully extracted, though Govinda is expected to remain hospitalized for a few days.
Incident Details
According to his manager, Shashi Sinha, Govinda was preparing to leave for the airport for a scheduled trip to Kolkata when the accident occurred. “We had a 6 am flight to catch for a show in Kolkata, and I had already reached the airport. Govinda ji was about to leave his residence when this incident happened,” Sinha reported. He emphasized that it was fortunate Govinda only suffered a leg injury and that it wasn’t serious.
At the time of the incident, Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, was in Kolkata, but she quickly returned to Mumbai upon hearing the news.
How the Incident Occurred
The manager explained that Govinda had been keeping his licensed revolver in a cupboard. When he dropped the weapon, it accidentally discharged. After the incident, the actor managed to call his wife and his manager, who then rushed to his home. The police arrived shortly thereafter, and Govinda was transported to the hospital. His daughter, Tina Ahuja, also made her way to the hospital following the incident.
Medical Update
Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who performed the surgery, stated that the bullet had been successfully removed and that Govinda’s condition is stable. He indicated that while the actor would likely be discharged in three to four days, he would require about a month of rest for a full recovery.
In an audio message sent from the hospital, Govinda expressed gratitude for the blessings he received from fans, family, and his guru. “I was hit by a bullet, but it has been extracted. I thank the doctors here and your prayers,” he stated.
Support from Family and Officials
Numerous family members and well-wishers gathered at the hospital after learning about the incident. Vinay Anand, Govinda’s nephew, assured fans that the actor’s condition is stable and he would return home soon. “Thank you to Govinda’s fans for all the love and support over the last 25 years,” he said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also reached out to Govinda, who is associated with the Shiv Sena party, expressing his deep concern for the actor’s health. In a statement, Shinde conveyed, “I have assured Govinda that he and his family will receive all necessary support during this challenging time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones.”
