A Memorable Wicket in Dubai
Bangladesh’s young spinner, Rishad Hossain, has described dismissing Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli as the highlight of his campaign in this year’s Champions Trophy. In a tightly contested Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Rishad removed Kohli for 22 runs off 38 balls, marking a personal milestone despite Bangladesh’s eventual defeat by six wickets.
Kohli’s dismissal came as he attempted a late cut from deep in the crease to a fuller delivery, only to edge the ball directly to Soumya Sarkar at slip, who made a routine catch. Alongside Kohli, Rishad also dismissed Axar Patel, ending his spell with impressive figures of 10 overs, 38 runs, and 2 wickets—emerging as Bangladesh’s most effective bowler in the match. However, the team was unable to defend a modest total of 229.
In a post-match video shared on BBL’s official platform, Rishad expressed his emotions, saying, “I think my favorite wicket in the Champions Trophy was Virat Kohli. It was a completely new experience for me. When I came home and checked my phone, I saw so many comments and messages—it was overwhelming but really heartwarming.”
A New Chapter: Rishad Joins the Big Bash League
Making His Mark in Australian T20 Cricket
Rishad Hossain is now set to make his debut in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), representing the Hobart Hurricanes. His selection marks a significant milestone for Bangladeshi cricket, as he becomes the first player from his country to participate in the league since Shakib Al Hasan played for the Melbourne Renegades during the 2014–15 season.
Although Rishad had been drafted by the Hurricanes last year, he couldn’t take part due to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s refusal to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Now fully cleared to participate, he’s eager to make the most of this international opportunity.
“I’m truly happy and excited for the Big Bash. It’s one of the biggest leagues in the world, which makes it very important for me. That’s why I decided to participate. As a Bangladeshi, I always try to represent my country to the best of my ability, and I will give 100 per cent in Hobart,” said Rishad with determination.
Hurricanes Set to Begin Title Defense
The Hobart Hurricanes, reigning champions of the BBL, are gearing up to begin their new campaign on Tuesday, December 16, facing off against Sydney Thunder at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The Hurricanes clinched last season’s title thanks to a brilliant century from Mitchell Owen, and the team now looks to defend their crown with fresh talent like Rishad in the squad.
