Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is out of jail once again. The Haryana government has given Ram Rahim freedom from jail for 21 days on furlough. Ram Rahim came out of Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on Tuesday morning and left for Barnawa Ashram in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh.
It is being told that Ram Rahim will stay here during the 21-day furlough. While granting furlough to Ram Rahim, some conditions have also been imposed. Rules have been set for Ram Rahim in this. At the same time, many questions are being raised about Ram Rahim getting furlough before the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. The BJP government of Haryana is surrounded by these questions. People are saying that Ram Rahim coming out of jail during the elections is not a coincidence but Ram Rahim has been released from jail for electoral gains.
Ram Rahim had knocked the door of High Court
The Dera chief had sought furlough in June 2024 and had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court for this. After which, while hearing Ram Rahim’s petition, the High Court left the decision to the Haryana government. The High Court had directed the Haryana government to take a careful decision on the basis of competent authority rules regarding granting furlough or parole to Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
On the other hand, the petition filed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) against the repeated parole and furlough granted to Gurmeet Ram Rahim was rejected by the Punjab-Haryana High Court. In fact, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had filed a petition in the High Court against the parole of Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim and had protested against repeatedly bringing Ram Rahim out of jail.
During this time, the High Court had also reprimanded the Haryana government in January this year on the petition of SGPC against the repeated parole and furlough being granted to the Dera chief. The High Court had ordered the Haryana government that from now on, the Dera chief should be given parole or furlough only after his permission. Meanwhile, the Haryana government had clarified in the High Court that not only Ram Rahim but prisoners serving sentences in cases like murder and rape are also being given the benefit of parole or furlough facility in the same way as per the rules.
Ram Rahim acquitted in Ranjit Singh murder case
It is known that on 28 May 2024, the Punjab-Haryana High Court gave a big relief to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The High Court acquitted Ram Rahim, the accused in the famous Ranjit Singh murder case. Along with Ram Rahim, 4 more people convicted in this case were also acquitted.
On 8 October 2021, the special CBI court of Panchkula convicted five people including Ram Rahim under section 302 (murder) of the IPC. After this, on 12 October 2021, all were sentenced to life imprisonment. But the High Court overturned this decision of the CBI court. Ram Rahim had appealed in the High Court against the life imprisonment sentence.
Ram Rahim will remain in jail in two cases
Even after being acquitted in the Ranjit Singh murder case, Ram Rahim will remain in jail in the journalist murder case and the rape case of nuns. Let us tell you that Ram Rahim was convicted in not one but three cases. First of all, in 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the sexual exploitation case of nuns.
After this, Ram Rahim was sentenced to life imprisonment in the journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case and after this the verdict came in the Ranjit Singh murder case. In this too, Ram Rahim was sentenced to life imprisonment. The Panchkula CBI special court gave the verdict in all three cases. Ram Rahim is serving the sentence in Sunaria jail of Rohtak district.
Ram Rahim will get 50 days parole in January
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has come out of Sunariya jail several times on parole. In January this year, Ram Rahim was given 50 days parole. After coming out of jail, Ram Rahim went straight to Barnawa Ashram in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. The jail administration had given parole to Ram Rahim with conditions. Rules were set for Ram Rahim in this.
Ram Rahim has come out of jail 10 times since 2017
Dera Chief Ram Rahim has been in jail since 2017 and since then he has come out of jail 10 times in the last four years. He has got parole and furlough 10 times. In the last 24 months, Gurmeet Ram Rahim has come out of jail eight times. Ram Rahim first got one-day parole in October 2020 and then 48 hours parole in May 2021. After this, in February 2022, Ram Rahim was released from jail for the first time on a 21-day furlough.
After this, Ram Rahim came out of jail on 30 days parole in June 2022, 40 days parole in October 2022, 40 days parole in January 2023, 30 days parole in July 2023, 21 days furlough in November 2023, 50 days parole in January 2024 and now 21 days furlough in August 2024. Questions are raised on the Haryana government for giving so much relief to Ram Rahim.
