Delhi coaching incident accused sent to 14 days judicial custody

Old Rajendra Nagar Accident: The accused arrested in the accident that happened after water filled in the basement of IAS coaching institute in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi have been sent to 14 days judicial custody. Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has sent all the five accused to judicial custody.

On the other hand, the anger of the students has erupted over this matter. A large number of students gathered in Old Rajendra Nagar on Monday (29 July) and protested fiercely. On Saturday (27 July), 3 students died due to water logging in the basement of Rao IAS Study Circle Coaching Institute in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. During the rescue operation, the bodies of two girl students and one boy student were recovered from the basement.

23-year-old Naveen Dalvin, a resident of Ernakulam, died in the accident. Apart from Naveen, Shreya Yadav (25), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Tanya Soni (25), a resident of Telangana, also died due to water logging in the basement of the coaching centre.

  • The MCD commissioner said that action against illegal basements which pose a threat to defence has been intensified.

  • Delhi Police sent a notice to MCD seeking information in the investigation of the case registered in connection with the death of 3 students at a coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar.
  • The MCD on Monday carried out a sealing drive in Mukherjee Nagar in north-west Delhi, the hub of UPSC coaching centres in the national capital. 
  • An MCD official said similar drives would be conducted across the city later against establishments operating illegally from basements.
