Nothing has confirmed that the public rollout of its highly anticipated Android 16-based update, Nothing OS 4.0, is scheduled for Friday, November 21. After months of anticipation, users are finally set to receive the latest version, which plays a key role in the company’s AI-centric strategy.
Nothing OS 4.0 Beta Feedback and Announcement
Prior to the official launch, Nothing offered users the chance to explore the update through the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta, which began in late October. In a recent announcement on the Nothing Community site, the company expressed gratitude to beta testers for their insights, stating:
“We know you have been eagerly waiting for the general release and want to say a special thank you to our Beta testers for providing valuable thoughts and feedback. The wait is nearly over.”
Additionally, on the social media platform X, Nothing shared a brief teaser:
“Nothing OS 4.0. Let your phone bring flow to your life. General Release. 21 Nov.”
What to Expect from the Stable Version
Android 16 “Flow” Update
Nothing OS 4.0, internally referred to as “Flow”, promises to enhance the user experience with a mix of Android 16 features and Nothing-specific innovations. While the company has not confirmed the full list of compatible devices for the stable release, the open beta provides an early indication.
Supported Devices
The Android 16 open beta currently supports:
- Nothing Phone 2 and Phone 3
- Nothing Phone 2a and 2a Plus
- Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Pro
These devices are expected to receive Nothing OS 4.0 on day one, November 21. Future updates may include additional devices like the Nothing Phone 3a Lite, as well as smartphones under Nothing’s CMF sub-brand, which also uses Nothing OS and will continue to receive Android updates.
Key Features of Nothing OS 4.0
The update brings several new features alongside standard Android 16 improvements:
- Extra Dark Mode for better battery efficiency and reduced eye strain
- Pop-Up View for floating windows
- 2×2 Quick Setting Tile for faster access
- Two New Lock Screen Clock Styles for personalization
- Essential Apps—user-created widgets shareable via the Nothing Playground portal
Camera and Lock Screen Enhancements
The Nothing Phone 2 series will gain the “Stretch” camera feature, previously exclusive to the Nothing Phone 3. Additionally, the update includes the controversial Lock Glimpse feature, designed to display timely updates and useful content. However, Nothing has confirmed that Lock Glimpse will be off by default on the Nothing Phone 3a series.
Availability
The stable version of Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to reach supported devices by the end of this week, marking a major milestone for Nothing’s AI-focused ecosystem.
