PM Modi Reflects on Patel’s Dream of National Unity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas(Unity Day) celebrations on October 31, 2025, paid a heartfelt tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, reaffirming the Iron Man’s unmatched contribution to India’s unity. Speaking at Ekta Nagar near the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat, PM Modi remarked that Sardar Patel envisioned the integration of the entire Kashmir region into India, similar to how he united over 550 princely states after Independence. However, he stated that then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not allow Patel’s wish to be fulfilled.
“We Should Create History, Not Just Write It”
Addressing a massive gathering, PM Modi quoted Sardar Patel’s philosophy: “One should not waste time writing history but should work hard to create it.” The Prime Minister emphasized that Patel’s decisive policies and leadership laid the foundation of a strong, united, and self-reliant India. “After Independence, the impossible task of integrating hundreds of princely states was made possible by Sardar Patel. His dream of ‘One India, Excellent India’ continues to inspire generations,” PM Modi stated.
Honouring the Iron Man at the Statue of Unity
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister offered floral tributes at the 182-metre-tall Statue of Unity, located in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The grand event began with the National Unity Day parade, where PM Modi reviewed contingents representing India’s police and paramilitary forces. The parade symbolized the nation’s unity in diversity, a vision close to Sardar Patel’s heart.
Women Lead the Parade of Strength and Pride
This year’s parade stood out for its powerful display of women’s leadership. All contingents—including those from BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF, SSB, and several state police forces—were commanded by women officers. Their participation represented a growing wave of women’s empowerment in India’s security sector. Units from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Assam, Tripura, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh also participated.
Parade of Diversity and Valor
Adding grandeur to the celebrations, the parade showcased ten artistic tableaux from various states and forces including NSG, NDRF, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Manipur, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry—all depicting the theme “Unity in Diversity.” The event also featured performances by 900 artists who presented classical dances from across India, portraying the nation’s cultural richness.
Spectacular Highlights of the Celebration
From the BSF’s Indian-breed dog squad and Gujarat Police’s horse contingent to Assam Police’s thrilling motorcycle stunts and the majestic BSF camel band, the parade captivated the audience. The Indian Air Force added glory to the occasion with an aerial fly-past under Operation Surya Kiran. The event also honored five Shaurya Chakra awardees of the CRPF and sixteen gallantry medal winners of the BSF, recognizing their bravery in anti-Naxal and counter-terror operations.
A Message of Service and Patriotism
In his concluding message, PM Modi recalled Patel’s words that true happiness lies in serving the nation. “There is no greater source of joy than dedicating oneself to the service of the country,” he said, calling upon every citizen to uphold unity, discipline, and national pride—the core ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy.
