Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s largest SUV manufacturer, is set to introduce the XUV 7XO, the facelifted version of the popular XUV700, in the Indian market today. Originally launched in August 2021, the XUV700 has recorded sales of more than 3,00,000 units, firmly establishing Mahindra as a dominant force in the rapidly expanding SUV segment.
Bookings and Market Position
The Mahindra XUV 7XO has already generated strong interest ahead of its launch. Bookings for the updated SUV opened last month with a token amount of Rs 21,000. With a strong brand recall and an already successful predecessor, the facelift aims to further strengthen Mahindra’s position by offering more features and refreshed styling without altering the core strengths of the vehicle.
Exterior Design Updates
While the overall silhouette of the XUV 7XO remains familiar, Mahindra has introduced noticeable updates to give the SUV a fresher appearance. The front fascia now features a redesigned grille paired with updated LED headlamps. The LED DRLs resemble those seen on the smaller Mahindra XUV 3XO, lending a modern touch. At the rear, the SUV receives new LED taillamps inspired by the recently launched Mahindra XEV 9S electric SUV. The XUV 7XO will also ride on a new set of alloy wheels, with their size expected to be revealed during the official announcement.
Revamped Interior and Technology
The cabin of the Mahindra XUV 7XO sees significant upgrades, making it one of the highlights of the facelift. A new dual-tone interior theme enhances the premium feel, while the dashboard layout has been revised to accommodate a striking triple-screen setup. This includes a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment display, and a dedicated co-driver screen, similar to what is offered in the XEV 9S. The steering wheel has also been carried over from Mahindra’s electric SUV lineup. Adding to the luxury quotient is a Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos and a powered boss mode for the co-driver seat.
Comfort and Safety Features
Mahindra is expected to load the XUV 7XO with an extensive list of comfort and safety features. These include seat ventilation for the first and second rows, a powered driver seat with memory function, a panoramic sunroof, and seven airbags. The SUV is also likely to offer Level 2+ ADAS, enhancing overall safety and driving convenience.
Engine and Transmission Options
Under the hood, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is expected to retain the same powertrain options as the outgoing XUV700. Buyers will have the choice of petrol and diesel engines, paired with either manual or automatic transmissions. Mahindra is also expected to continue offering the AWD option for those seeking enhanced off-road capability.
Detailed Powertrain Specifications
The petrol variant is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivering 197hp and 380Nm of torque, available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel lineup features a 2.2-litre engine offered in two tunes. The lower-output version produces 153hp and 360Nm of torque and comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. The higher-output version delivers 182hp, with torque figures of 420Nm for the manual and 450Nm for the automatic variant.
Expected Pricing and Competition
The outgoing Mahindra XUV700 is currently priced between Rs 13,65,800 and Rs 25,14,000 (ex-showroom). With the XUV 7XO, Mahindra is expected to adopt an aggressive pricing strategy. Industry expectations suggest a price range of Rs 14,00,000 to Rs 26,00,000 (ex-showroom). In this segment, the facelifted XUV 7XO will compete with rivals such as the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus.
