Dausa students stranded in Kyrgyzstan, local students target foreign students
Many students from Rajasthan’s Dausa district have also been affected by the violence against Indian and Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek. Here, on the night of May 17, local students entered hostels and beat up Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi students, in which 29 students were injured.
There have been incidents of attacks on foreign students in Kyrgyzstan, in which many students from Dausa district have also been affected. Violence was perpetrated against Indian and Pakistani students in Bishkek on the night of 17 May. Local students barged into hostels and targeted Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi students, in which 29 students were injured.
The Ministry of External Affairs has advised the students not to leave the hostels. Many students from the Mahwa area of Dausa district in Rajasthan are also in Kyrgyzstan, who have gone to study MBBS. Mahwa MLA Rajendra Pradhan is in touch with the students and is assuring them of safe evacuation.
This episode of violence started with a fight between Egyptian and Kyrgyz students on May 13, after the video of which went viral, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi students were targeted.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also expressed concern and directed the embassy to help the students. The claims of death and rape of Pakistani students on social media have been termed as rumours but in a video Pakistani students are talking about many students being killed in the violence.
Around 12 thousand Pakistani and 15 thousand Indian students are pursuing various courses in Kyrgyzstan, who are scared of the current situation and are demanding to return home.
