The Seal is built on the e-Platform 3.0 and BYD’s new 800-volt electrical platform. It was announced in China in May 2022, with deliveries starting in August 2022. The design was previewed as the BYD Ocean-X Concept in September 2021.
The BYD Seal is a 5-seater electric car with a starting price of Rs. 41 Lakh and a top model price going up to Rs. 53 Lakh in India. It offers 3 variants with a battery range between 510 to 650 km. The base model is the Seal Dynamic Range and the top model is the BYD Seal Performance.
Some of the key features of the BYD Seal include:
- CTB (cell-to-body) Technology: The BYD Seal is the first model equipped with BYD’s in-house developed CTB technology. This cutting-edge technology integrates the Blade Battery seamlessly into the car’s body, forming a strong “sandwich” structure that can achieve a remarkable torsional rigidity of 40,500 N·m/°, equivalent to luxury cars. With CTB technology, the Blade Battery is more than an energy source; it is also a structural component capable of withstanding significant force.
- e-Platform 3.0: The BYD Seal is equipped with the all-new BYD e-Platform 3.0 designed exclusively for pure electric vehicles. e-Platform 3.0 aims to promote NEVs’ performance in safety and low-temperature driving range as well as improve intelligent driving experiences, to build more efficient and safer new intelligent EVs.
- Blade Battery: The BYD Seal is equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology that offers high safety, long life, and excellent low-temperature performance.
- 3 powertrain options: The BYD Seal is offered in three powertrain options:
- The base model, the Seal Dynamic Range, is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. It has a CLTC range of 510 km.
- The Seal Premium is powered by the same rear-mounted electric motor as the Dynamic Range, but with a higher output of 312 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. It has a CLTC range of 650 km.
- The top-of-the-line Seal Performance is an all-wheel-drive model powered by a front motor and a rear motor, producing a combined output of 530 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque. It has a CLTC range of 580 km.
