IMD Sounds Red Alert Across Multiple Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised serious concerns by issuing a red alert across several districts in Maharashtra following intense rainfall on Sunday, September 28. The regions under the highest level of weather warning include Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Raigad, and Pune, as heavy showers continue to lash large parts of the state.
Nowcast Update: Severe Weather Forecast for North Maharashtra
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai, the latest Nowcast indicates that Nashik, Palghar, Dhule, and Nandurbar are under a red alert until 7 PM Sunday. This means these areas could experience extremely heavy rain with the potential for flooding, landslides, and disruption of daily life.
Meanwhile, Mumbai city and its suburban regions remain under a yellow alert, forecasting light to moderate showers. Neighboring Thane and Raigad districts have been issued an orange alert, signaling the likelihood of heavy rainfall and urging citizens to stay cautious.
Mumbai Braces for More Rain Amid Festive Season
The IMD has also forecast extremely heavy downpours in Mumbai and its adjoining regions during the ongoing festive celebrations. While a red alert is active for September 28, an orange alert will continue till September 30, suggesting that weather conditions may remain volatile through the week.
Godavari River Approaches Danger Level in Nashik
The relentless rainfall in Nashik has caused the Godavari River to swell, pushing water levels close to the danger mark. According to a PTI report, temples in the Ramkund area, including the famous Dutondya Maruti idol, have already begun to experience submersion. Waterlogging has also been reported in the Goda Ghat region, raising concerns among residents and pilgrims.
Local Administration on High Alert
Speaking to the media, Nashik District Collector Jalaj Sharma confirmed that a red alert is in place for both today and tomorrow, with all emergency measures being enforced. “The district administration is fully vigilant, and all safety protocols have been activated to protect citizens,” he assured.
Navratri Devotees Urged to Cooperate
With Navratri celebrations in full swing, thousands of devotees are expected to visit Saptashring Garh in Vani. The administration is actively managing the crowd and has urged the public to comply with guidelines.
“Devotees are requested to follow all official instructions and avoid overcrowding during darshan,” said Collector Sharma, emphasizing public safety amid the adverse weather.
