A Diwali Treat with a Supernatural Twist
Maddock Films has officially unveiled the much-anticipated trailer of its upcoming horror-comedy Thamma, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in prominent roles, the film is scheduled to hit the big screens on October 21, coinciding with the festive celebration of Diwali.
From the Makers of Stree and Munjya
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar—best known for the horror-comedy Munjya—Thamma boasts a strong writing team comprising Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara. The project is jointly produced by Dinesh Vijan (Maddock Films) and Amar Kaushik, the creative mind behind Stree. The film is the latest entrant into Maddock’s expanding horror-comedy universe, fondly called the MHCU (Maddock Horror Comedy Universe).
Enter the Vampires: A Dark and Comic World
At the heart of Thamma lies a fresh spin on vampire folklore. Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrays Yakshasan, the menacing leader of the Betaals—an ancient vampire clan originally sworn to protect Earth and humankind. However, under Yakshasan’s influence, the Betaals abandon their noble path and instead indulge in drinking human blood, going rogue in a chilling and hilarious fashion.
Ayushmann’s Alok: A Vampire in Crisis
Ayushmann Khurrana plays Alok, an unsuspecting man who finds himself entangled in this dark underworld after crossing paths with Yakshasan and a mysterious vampire named Tadaka, who eventually becomes his love interest. As Alok undergoes a shocking transformation—complete with fangs and a missing heartbeat—he struggles to cope with his new identity, all while dealing with his delightfully oblivious parents, played by Paresh Rawal and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma.
In a moment of comic despair, Alok exclaims,
“Ab main kya karoonga? Meri life, mere ambition sab khatam. Rajma chawal kaise khaoonga?”—
highlighting the film’s quirky tone and humorous lens on supernatural transformation.
A Festival Release with Heart and Humor
Describing Thamma as the biggest release of his career, Ayushmann shared his excitement over its Diwali launch.
“For me, Diwali is about togetherness, family, and shared experiences. Watching a movie in theatres during Diwali is a personal ritual, and now, having my film be part of that tradition feels surreal.”
He added that Thamma aims to deliver joy, laughter, and spine-tingling excitement to audiences across the country, making the festive season even more special.
The Expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe
The trailer teases some exciting crossovers within the MHCU. Notably, Varun Dhawan appears as Bhediya, while Sathyaraj reprises his role as Elvis Karim Prabhakar from Munjya. Fans can also look forward to seeing Faisal Khan, widely recognized as Prahlad Cha from Panchayat, playing a crucial role in Thamma.
