‘Vinesh Phogat is still a medal winner for us’, this university of Punjab announced to give Rs 25 lakh

Posted on August 7, 2024 By NewsTodayLive Team

Punjab’s Lovely Professional University has announced a reward of Rs 25 lakh to its student and wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who created history by becoming the first Indian to reach the Olympic final in women’s wrestling. The university’s announcement came when Vinesh was disqualified on Wednesday after she was found to be 100 grams overweight before the 50 kg final of the Paris Olympics, depriving her of the medal.

Announcement of giving Rs 25 lakh

University’s founder chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal said, “For us, Vinesh is still a medal winner. Her dedication and skill deserve recognition and we feel proud to give her the prize money of Rs 25 lakh announced for the silver medalist. ” Vinesh is a student of MA Psychology at this university in Jalandhar. The university statement said, “The university had kept the amount for the silver medal winning students in the Paris Olympics. The award has been announced despite Vinesh being disqualified. ”

Today’s setback is painful – Modi

There has been a strong reaction in the political circles of the country on the disqualification of female Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the Paris Olympics. Various politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, have described this incident as painful and expressed hope that justice will be done to Phogat. Modi said, ‘Today’s setback is painful. I wish words could express the feeling of disappointment that I am experiencing.’ He expressed confidence that Phogat will come back stronger from Paris and the whole country is with her.

Hopefully, the Indian Olympic Association will get justice for the daughter.

At the same time, Rahul Gandhi said, ”It is unfortunate that Vinesh Phogat, the pride of India, who reached the finals by defeating world champion wrestlers, was disqualified on technical grounds. We have full hope that the Indian Olympic Association will strongly challenge this decision and get justice for the daughter of the country.”

Hope is broken…courage remains intact – CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann went to Phogat’s house in Haryana and met her family there. He said, ‘Hope is broken…courage is intact.’ Shri Maan said that it is also necessary to think that who made a mistake and where did the mistake happen? He said that the whole country is with Phogat.
