Experts deliberate upon new advances in Breast Cancer Care at Fortis Mohali

— This is the first of its kind multi-disciplinary meet organized in the region to highlight
recent and optimal treatment modalities for breast cancer —

Mohali, February 24, 2024: To spread awareness on breast cancer and highlight the latest medical advancements in surgical intervention, Fortis Cancer Institute, Mohali, organized a ‘Breast Cancer Symposium’ at the hospital today.

The brainchild of Dr. Naval Bansal, Endocrine & Breast Cancer Surgeon, Fortis Hospital Mohali, this is the first of its kind multi-disciplinary meet organized in the North region to highlight recent and optimal treatment modalities for breast cancer and was attended by renowned breast cancer surgeons and oncologists. The event included hands-on training sessions on new surgical techniques, ABC/SGRT radiation techniques, poster quiz for postgraduate students and panel discussions about the latest treatment options.

Dr Bansal deliberated upon the most advanced treatment options available for breast cancer at Fortis Mohali like Breast Conservation surgery, Sentinel Node Lymph Biopsy, Vacuum Assisted Breast Surgery with Immediate or Delayed Reconstruction, Multi-disciplinary Tumor Board, Stereotactic Breast Surgery, Immunotherapy and Latest Radiotherapy techniques etc.

Echoing similar views, Dr Narendra Kumar Bhalla, Director, Radiation Oncology, said, “According to a study by Globocon-2020, in India, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every four minutes. With some 1,78,000 new cases being diagnosed every year, the incidence of breast cancer has overtaken cervical cancer to become the most common cancer in Indian women. The symposium stressed on issues related to breast cancer management and the latest advancements in radiation therapy.”
