Early Indications of Readiness
Yashasvi Jaiswal has signaled his readiness to rejoin Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign with a determined practice session. Long before his teammates arrived at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya ground on a misty Tuesday morning, Jaiswal was already at the nets, putting in an intense hour-long session.
The session, held largely behind closed doors, saw the Indian opener confidently take on both spinners and pacers, hinting at a swift return to top form. His presence is expected to strengthen Mumbai’s top-order lineup as the tournament schedule intensifies.
Returning After a Health Break
Jaiswal missed the first three matches of the tournament due to acute gastroenteritis. He is now set to feature in Mumbai’s upcoming three to four matches, starting with the clash against Goa on Wednesday. His return will likely reshape the batting order, with Jaiswal opening alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ishan Mulchandani potentially making way.
The timing of his comeback is crucial. As the group stage progresses, each match carries greater significance, and having Jaiswal at the top adds both experience and authority to Mumbai’s batting lineup. His ability to set the tempo early in the innings could be pivotal, especially in conditions that favor bowlers during the morning sessions.
Boost to Team Morale
Mumbai’s coach and bowling mentor, Dhawal Kulkarni, highlighted the positive atmosphere in the camp with senior internationals returning. “The team is looking good, the guys have been in a good frame of mind, and the results reflect that. We have asked the boys to focus on the immediate games rather than think too far ahead. Taking it one match at a time is key,” Kulkarni explained.
He further added, “Rohit Sharma returning and playing a few matches after a long break has lifted the morale of the unit. With Yashasvi coming back and other international players expected in upcoming games, the team’s confidence and energy have received a significant boost.”
