Heightened Alert on International Border and LoC
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir reported unusual drone activity along multiple forward areas of the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday evening, January 11, 2026. The districts affected included Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch, according to officials. All the suspected drones (Pakistani Drones) appeared to originate from the Pakistan side, briefly entering Indian airspace before retreating.
Immediate Response by Security Forces
Upon detecting the aerial movements, ground forces initiated extensive search operations in the forward regions. In the Nowshera sector of Rajouri along the LoC, army personnel engaged medium and light machine guns around 6:35 pm after observing a drone hovering over Gania-Kalsian village.
Multiple Drone Sightings Reported
Officials reported several other drone sightings across the region:
- In Khabbar village, Teryath, Rajouri district, a drone with a blinking light moved from Dharmsal village in Kalakote towards Bharakh at 6:35 pm.
- In Chak Babral village, Ramgarh sector of Samba, a drone-like object hovered for several minutes around 7:15 pm.
- In Mankote sector of Poonch, a drone was observed moving from Tain towards Topa along the LoC at 6:25 pm.
Previous Arms Recovery Linked to Drones
The recent drone activity follows a security recovery on Friday night in Paloora village of Ghagwal, near the IB in Samba district. Security forces found an arms consignment allegedly dropped by a Pakistan-originating drone. The cache included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds, and a grenade.
Enhanced Vigilance Along Border Areas
These repeated incidents highlight continued vigilance by Indian security forces to monitor aerial threats along sensitive border sectors. Authorities have urged frontline personnel to remain alert and maintain operational readiness in response to any potential incursions.
