Officer Found Dead at Sector 11 Residence
Puran Kumar, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Haryana, tragically died by suicide at his home in Sector 11, Chandigarh, officials confirmed. The police responded promptly and are currently at the scene investigating the incident.
Circumstances Behind Suicide Remain Unclear
The exact reasons behind Kumar’s decision to take his own life remain unknown. Authorities have yet to uncover any definitive provocation leading up to the event.
Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police, Kanwardeep Kaur, said, “At around 1:30 pm, we received information at the Sector 11 police station. The SHO and his team inspected the scene and confirmed a reported suicide. The body has been identified as that of Puran Kumar, IPS officer.”
When asked about the presence of a suicide note, SSP Kaur stated, “A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is inspecting the spot, and investigations are ongoing.”
A Veteran Officer with a Distinguished Career
Puran Kumar was a 2001 batch IPS officer who held the prestigious position of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), one of the highest ranks in the Indian Police Service. He was posted at the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Sunaria, Rohtak, as of September 29.
Family Details
The officer’s wife, Aman P Kumar, is an IAS officer currently on an official assignment in Japan. She is expected to return to India by tomorrow evening.
