India batter Prithvi Shaw experienced an emotional day during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. After going unsold twice, Shaw expressed his disappointment on social media by posting a heartbreak emoji on his Instagram story, only to later delete it when the Delhi Capitals (DC) secured him in a late bid. Initially, Shaw went unsold at his base price of Rs 75 lakh in the opening session. His name then reappeared in the accelerated auction of unsold players, but no franchise placed a bid. Frustrated, Shaw shared an Instagram story stating “It’s Ok” with a heartbreak emoji, reflecting his initial disappointment.

Delhi Capitals Step In

In a surprising turn of events, Delhi Capitals revived Shaw’s name towards the end of the auction and successfully acquired him. Shaw quickly removed his earlier Instagram post within six minutes and reshared a post from DC, featuring a selfie with team captain Axar Patel. Captioning it, “Back to my family” with a heart emoji, Shaw celebrated his return to the franchise he represented from 2018 to 2024.

Prithvi Shaw’s Recent Form and Achievements

Shaw, 26, has been in impressive domestic form, including scoring the fastest double century in the Ranji Trophy this October. Since making his international debut against the West Indies in October 2018, he has featured in five Test matches and six ODIs, with his last appearance in an ODI coming against Sri Lanka on July 23, 2021.

Domestic and International Career Highlights

Shaw debuted domestically for Mumbai in the 2016-17 season and has recently switched to representing Maharashtra in domestic cricket. Known for his explosive batting and occasional off-spin, Shaw holds the record for the highest score by any batsman in any organized form of cricket since 1901, with 546 runs in a Harris Shield elite division match. He also captained India to victory in the 2018 U19 Cricket World Cup and played for Northamptonshire in the English County Championship during the 2023-24 season.
