Historic Celebration to Begin in New Delhi
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the year-long nationwide commemoration of India’s cherished National Song, “Vande Mataram”, on 7th November 2025 at approximately 9:30 AM. The event will take place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, marking the formal commencement of celebrations that will continue until 7th November 2026.
Release of Commemorative Stamp and Coin
As part of the inauguration, the Prime Minister will unveil a Commemorative Stamp and Coin honoring the enduring legacy of “Vande Mataram.” These special releases celebrate the song’s 150th anniversary, highlighting its pivotal role in India’s freedom movement and its ongoing significance in fostering national pride and unity.
Mass Singing to Engage Citizens Nationwide
The celebrations will feature a Mass Singing of the full version of “Vande Mataram” at around 9:50 AM, conducted across public spaces nationwide. Citizens from all walks of life will participate, reflecting the song’s universal appeal and its continued power to unite the people of India.
150 Years of Vande Mataram
The year 2025 marks a historic milestone: 150 years since the composition of “Vande Mataram.” Written by Bankimchandra Chatterji on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami, 7th November 1875, the song first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his novel Anandamath. Evoking the Motherland as a symbol of strength, prosperity, and divinity, “VandeMataram” poetically captured India’s awakening spirit, inspiring unity, self-respect, and devotion among its people.
