Ola Electric got trapped in the allegation of data theft, the giant company sent a legal notice

MapMyIndia: Serious allegations have been leveled against Ola, which recently came into the news after breaking ties with Google Maps. MapMyIndia has made serious allegations against the company of stealing map data. MapMyIndia has also sent a legal notice to Ola Electric. It states that Ola has violated the terms of the 2021 agreement. The company has started its services through reverse engineering. 

Map My India accused of data theft 

According to a Forbes India report, Map My India’s parent company CE Info Systems has alleged that Ola Electric has launched mapping services in India using its data. Ola Electric had signed a deal with Map My India to launch navigation services for the S1 Pro electric scooter in 2022. Ola Electric is accused of violating the licensing agreement. Under this agreement, Ola Electric cannot launch a similar product. 

Violated the agreement to create Ola Maps 

CE Info Systems has said in the notice that Ola has created Ola Maps using our API and SDK. Ola Electric has adopted an illegal path for financial gain. Ola Electric had claimed that they developed the API themselves and created Ola Maps with the help of Open Map. CE Info Systems has termed this as wrong. They say that by engaging in such dishonest and illegal activities, the company has openly violated the terms and conditions of the agreement. It has also violated copyright.

Ola Cabs had broken ties with Google Maps

Earlier this month, Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal broke ties with Google Maps and launched his own Ola Maps. He claimed that this would help the company save Rs 100 crore annually. After this, Google Maps also reduced its service fees. Ola Electric’s IPO is going to open on August 2 next week. Before that, this controversy can pose a challenge for the company.
