Synchronised Timelines to Prevent Admission Conflicts
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a revised counselling schedule for NEET-PG 2025 to curb the annual confusion and last-minute rush during postgraduate medical admissions. The new timetable mandates that all states strictly align their counselling processes with the All India Quota (AIQ) rounds.
Official Notice and Circulation
The updated schedule was released by the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board through a public notice on December 19 and circulated to all medical colleges and state counselling authorities on December 22. The revision was prepared in consultation with the Medical Counselling Committee and the Directorate General of Health Services, ensuring a coordinated approach across the country.
Addressing Historical Admission Clashes
NMC officials explained that the change aims to resolve long-standing conflicts between AIQ and state quota counselling. In previous years, overlapping rounds often led to blocked seats, prolonged admission cycles, and unnecessary confusion for students and institutions alike.
Mandatory Compliance for States and Colleges
The regulator emphasized that strict adherence to the revised schedule is mandatory, reflecting repeated directions from the Supreme Court. “All state counselling authorities must follow the new timetable to prevent inconsistencies between AIQ and state counselling rounds,” the NMC stated.
Implications for Students and Institutions
The directive applies to all state counselling bodies, participating medical institutions, and NEET-PG aspirants. Any deviation from the schedule could disrupt admissions and may result in regulatory actions, making it crucial for students and colleges to stay updated with the latest timelines.
