Counting Underway at Jawaharlal Nehru University
Votes are being tallied following the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNU) elections, with the latest figures indicating a significant lead for Left-backed candidates. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) currently trails in all four major posts after 5,190 votes were counted by the central panel.
Presidential Race: Left Candidate Leads
In the race for JNU President, Aditi Mishra, representing the Left, has secured an early lead with 1,707 votes. Her closest competitor, Vikas Patel from the ABVP, has received 1,367 votes, while Shinde Vijayalakshmi of the PSA follows with 1,121 votes.
Vice President: Left Extends Dominance
The contest for Vice President is also favoring the Left, with K. Gopika leading at 2,708 votes. Tanya Kumari from the ABVP is in second place with 1,637 votes, further widening the gap between the two major student groups.
General Secretary and Joint Secretary: Left Leads
For the General Secretary position, Sunil Yadav of the Left is ahead with 1,745 votes. Similarly, in the Joint Secretary contest, Danish Ali of the Left has taken the lead with 1,812 votes, outpacing Anuj Damara of the ABVP, who has 1,673 votes.
Celebration Among Left Supporters
Supporters of Left-affiliated candidates have already begun celebrating their early victories, signaling a strong showing in this year’s JNU Students’ Union elections. The ABVP, meanwhile, will be assessing its performance after trailing in all key positions.
