Love Trap, Fake Doctors, and Impersonators Busted in Uttarakhand’s ‘Operation Kalanemi’

Uttarakhand Police’s wide-reaching crackdown under Operation Kalanemi has unearthed a web of deception involving fake doctors, impersonating IAS officers, and even a man accused of trapping women in love scams. The police have arrested 14 individuals and taken action against more than 1,100 suspects across various districts of the state.
Large-Scale Verification Drive
Speaking at a press conference held at Sardar Patel Bhawan on Sunday, Uttarakhand Police spokesperson Nilesh Anand Bharne revealed that over 5,500 individuals were verified during the operation. A total of 1,182 people faced police action, with cases registered against 14 of them, who were subsequently arrested.
The highest number of verifications took place in Haridwar district (2,704 individuals), where three arrests were made. In Dehradun, 922 people were verified and five suspects were booked and detained. Similar actions were taken in other districts, including Tehri, Pauri, Almora, and Nainital.
Key Arrests and Findings
1. Jammu Man Trapping Women in Love Scams
A man identified as Ifraz Ahmed from Anantnag (Jammu) was arrested in Dehradun for allegedly trapping young women in romantic relationships by concealing his identity and religion. He was caught following a complaint by one of the victims.
2. Fake Bangladeshi Doctor Nabbed
In Selakui, a Bangladeshi national posing as a doctor using forged identity documents was apprehended. He possessed fake Aadhaar card, PAN card, and a driving license.
3. Exposing an International Religious Conversion Racket
The police also uncovered links between an international religious conversion racket in Uttar Pradesh and individuals in Dehradun. FIRs were registered at Premnagar and Ranipokhari police stations. Several accused are expected to be brought from Uttar Pradesh under warrants, and a lookout notice has been issued for a key accused based in Dubai.
4. Fraudster Posing as IAS Officer
In Tehri Garhwal’s Kempty area, a man from Prayagraj was arrested for cyber fraud amounting to ₹2.55 lakh. He allegedly impersonated an IAS officer to deceive a guest house owner seeking construction approvals.
5. Bangladeshi National in Monk Disguise
In Sahaspur, police caught a Bangladeshi citizen disguised as a monk under the alias “Shani Daan Baba,” hiding in plain sight in a religious outfit.
Strong Message from Uttarakhand Police
IG Nilesh Anand Bharne emphasized that Operation Kalanemi sends a clear signal: “Anyone attempting to manipulate the faith, culture, or security of Devbhoomi (land of the gods) will not be spared.”
