In a tragic railway accident near Bilaspur station on Tuesday, at least 11 people lost their lives while 20 others sustained injuries. The incident involved a collision between a stationary goods train and a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) local train. Government Response and Relief Measures
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced an ex-gratia payment to support the victims and their families. Families of the deceased will receive Rs 5 lakh, while the injured will be given Rs 50,000 along with free medical treatment.
In a press conference held in Raipur, CM Sai expressed his condolences, stating, “A train accident took place near Bilaspur today. Rescue operations are underway. This is very sad news. Compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased, and the injured will receive free treatment along with financial support.”
Bilaspur District Collector Sanjay Agrawal further clarified that the collision involved the last bogie of a MEMU local train and the first bogie of a goods train, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
