Release Delay Amid Legal Dispute
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s highly anticipated Telugu action film, Akhanda 2, initially set to premiere on December 5, has been postponed indefinitely. The delay reportedly stems from a legal dispute between the production houses Eros International Media Limited and 14 Reels Plus LLP.
Official Statement from Producers
14 Reels Plus LLP, which financed the project, expressed their regret over the postponement, citing “unavoidable circumstances” as the reason. The production banner shared on X:
“With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film. We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us. We promise to share a positive update very soon.”
In a separate post, the makers also mentioned “technical issues beyond their control,” clarifying that while the Indian premieres have been cancelled, overseas screenings would proceed as planned.
Legal Proceedings Behind the Delay
Reports suggest that the postponement follows a Madras High Court order, which stayed the film’s release due to an appeal by Eros International Media Limited. The appeal challenges a prior arbitration decision that favored Eros, entitling the company to nearly ₹28 crore plus 14% interest.
The court’s directive prevents Akhanda 2 from releasing in theatres, on digital platforms, or via satellite until the financial dues are cleared by 14 Reels Entertainment.

Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Akhanda, directed by Boyapati Srinu. The fantasy action film features Nandamuri Balakrishna alongside Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, Pragya Jaiswal, and Harshaali Malhotra in key roles. The soundtrack is composed by Thaman S. The producers have not yet announced a revised release date.
