Widespread Disruption Reported
Social media platform X faced another significant outage on Friday, affecting thousands of users in India and several other countries. This marks the second disruption within just four days, raising concerns among users about the platform’s reliability.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, reports of issues began emerging around 8:00 PM local time. Complaints peaked at over 4,500 by 8:50 PM, highlighting the scale of the disruption.
Elon Musk’s Transparency Initiative
Earlier on Sunday, X’s owner and billionaire Elon Musk announced plans to make the platform’s news feed and advertising algorithms publicly available. Musk stated that the move is intended to increase transparency in how content and advertisements are recommended to users.
He explained that the new algorithm would be open source and updated regularly:
“We will make the new X algorithm, including all code used to determine what organic and advertising posts are recommended to users, open source in 7 days. This will be repeated every 4 weeks, with comprehensive developer notes, to help you understand what changed.”
Cause of the Outage Remains Unclear
As of now, X has not provided an official explanation for the outage. Users continue to experience interruptions, and the platform’s reliability remains under scrutiny.
