The popular outage monitoring platform, Downdetector, received a surge of reports confirming the incident, with the first alerts appearing around 1:04 PM IST.

Downdetector’s live outage tracking revealed that nearly 82% of complaints originated from ChatGPT users struggling with the service. Reports concerning the web browser version accounted for 12%, while mobile app-related issues made up approximately 6% of total submissions. The platform’s outage graph demonstrated a steep rise from virtually no incidents to over 770 reports within an hour, highlighting the suddenness and scale of the disruption.
Social Media and Forums Highlight User Grievances
Across social networks and discussion forums, users echoed their frustration with error messages such as “error in message stream” and “something went wrong.” Many reported issues initiating new chats or refreshing existing conversations. Others noted unusually slow response times or complete lack of replies from the AI.
Users shared their experiences on Downdetector with comments like, “Not working (no responses displayed). Mozilla Firefox: Working fine,” and “Not slow for me. I am not even getting a response lol.” Additional complaints included frequent timeouts and errors indicating “too many concurrent requests.”
OpenAI Yet to Address the Outage
As of now, OpenAI has not released any official communication regarding the outage. Their status page and social media channels remain silent on the root cause or any estimated timeline for resolving the problem. Users continue to wait for updates as the disruption persists.
