Netanyahu Targets Qatar Over Hamas Ties, Draws Parallels With U.S. War on Terror
Israel Blames Qatar for Harboring Hamas Leadership
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a direct and forceful warning to Qatar, accusing the Gulf nation of providing a safe haven to top Hamas leaders. According to Israeli intelligence and long-standing suspicions, Hamas has maintained its political base in Doha since 2012. Netanyahu stated that if Qatar refuses to expel or eliminate these individuals, Israel will take matters into its own hands.
Israeli Strike in Doha Justified as ‘Self-Defense’
Amid growing backlash over Israel’s military operation in Doha, Netanyahu doubled down on the decision, asserting it was a justified response to terrorism—akin to the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks. “This was not just an attack on Israel; it was the deadliest assault on the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” he said, referencing the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led massacre. “And like the U.S. after 9/11, we will pursue justice, wherever it takes us.”
Netanyahu Says Qatar is Enabling Terror
Going further, Netanyahu accused Qatar of not just sheltering Hamas figures but actively enabling them. “They’re giving them mansions, funding, and freedom to operate. This money is being used to fuel terror against Israeli citizens,” he said. He warned that Israel will strike Hamas operatives wherever they hide, under the same doctrine the U.S. used against al-Qaeda after 9/11.
Hypocrisy in Global Reactions, Says Israel
Frustrated by international criticism, Netanyahu called out the inconsistency in global responses. “The world applauded the U.S. when they took out bin Laden in Pakistan. But when we act against those who slaughter our people, we’re condemned?” he said. Israel argues it is merely applying the same standard the world accepted after 9/11: terrorists have no safe harbor.
Qatar and Muslim Nations Condemn Israeli Actions
The military operation in Doha has sparked strong reactions across the Muslim world. Qatar condemned the airstrike, calling it a violation of its national sovereignty and warning that such actions risk escalating tensions across the entire Middle East. Other regional powers echoed similar concerns, accusing Israel of overreach.
