Haryana cadre IAS Mandeep Singh Barar gets big responsibility, appointed as new Home Secretary of Chandigarh

Chandigarh:  Haryana cadre IAS Mandeep Singh Brar will be appointed in Chandigarh on deputation for 3 years. Mandeep Brar will be the new Home Secretary of Chandigarh. At present, he is DGIPR and is appointed in the Haryana government. Mandeep Singh Brar was also appointed as DC of Chandigarh in 2018. Then he held this post in Chandigarh till 2021. He has done law graduation from Punjab University. In Haryana, he has also been the DC of Ambala, Yamunanagar, Panchkula and Karnal. Most of his education is from Chandigarh.

A panel of names of three IAS officers of Haryana was sent for the post of Home Secretary. Mandeep Barard’s name was approved. The responsibility of Home Secretary in the Union Territory of Chandigarh is given to an IAS officer of Haryana. A panel of three IAS officers was sent by Haryana to appoint the new Home Secretary of Chandigarh. The three names included Dr. Amit Kumar Agarwal, Mandeep Singh Barard and J. Ganeshan. Mandeep Singh Barard has previously worked as DC Chandigarh on deputation in Chandigarh.

Dr. Amit Kumar Agarwal of Haryana cadre is of 2003 batch while Mandeep Singh Barar is an officer of 2005 batch and J. Ganeshan is an officer of 2006 batch. Currently, Dr. Amit Kumar Agarwal is working as Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Haryana. While Mandeep Singh Barar is working as DGPR Haryana. J. Ganeshan is working as MD in Shepherd.

Amit Agarwal has handled the charge of Secretary to the Governor, Commissioner of Excise and Taxation Department and Director of Urban Local Bodies Department. He has also been Assistant Commissioner in Gurugram, SDM in Hisar, ADC in Panipat, HUDA Administrator in Faridabad, Deputy Commissioner and DGIPR in Yamunanagar, Hisar, Palwal, Rohtak Faridabad. Originally a resident of Jaipur, Dr. Amit Kumar Agarwal did MBBS from SMS Medical College there. But he never practised as a doctor either at private or government level. He liked to do challenging work and he started preparing for IAS and achieved his target.

Extremely affable and soft-spoken, Barar is a law graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Political Science and Psychology from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has administrative experience in dealing with public problems in areas such as health, education, poverty alleviation, social welfare and empowerment of disadvantaged groups of society, infrastructural development, women empowerment. Barar has vast experience in rural development and urban governance, apart from being Deputy Commissioner (District Administrative Head) of several districts, he has handled several state policy administration assignments including working with the Chief Minister of the state of Haryana. Mandeep looks forward to upgrading his skills for future assignments in positions involving policy design and implementation of large-scale programmes for public welfare at the state and national level. 

His wife is also a senior IAS officer

Let us tell you that Mandeep Singh Brar’s wife Ashima Brar is also a very senior IAS officer. She has also been entrusted with an important responsibility by the Chief Minister. She is currently the Additional Principal Secretary to CM. She also has the experience of leading many important departments. She is also counted among very capable officers. Along with carrying out important responsibilities like Director General of Urban Estate, she has also held many important positions in the Department of Medicine, Education and Research. Very honest and discipline-loving Ashima Brar is also one of the officers very close to the Chief Minister.

 IAS officer 2005 cadre Mandeep Barad has earlier been the Deputy Commissioner of many districts of Haryana! He has been an administrative officer in many districts of the state including Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra! Apart from this, he has also been the Deputy Commissioner of the Union Territory Chandigarh! His wife Ashima Barad is also an IAS officer who has served as Deputy Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office! Once again, she has been appointed as Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister a day earlier! Earlier, Mandeep Barad has also served as Deputy Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister! Apart from this, his father JS Barad has been a Justice of the Honorable Punjab and Haryana High Court! He received his graduation in law from Punjab University and graduation in social science, political and psychology from Chandigarh and India University.
