Barnala: Giving a big gift to the women of Punjab on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today announced 3000 new recruitments of Anganwadi workers as well as creating huge employment opportunities for women.

Addressing a state-level function on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan here today, the Chief Minister said that the State Government has initiated the process in this regard and recruitment to these posts would be done soon. He said that this move would generate new employment opportunities which would be extremely helpful for greater rights of women. Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that the State Government was sympathetically considering the genuine demands of the Anganwadi workers.

The Chief Minister said that the government is making several efforts aimed at women empowerment. He said that women officers have been appointed as Senior Superintendents of Police in six districts of the state and Deputy Commissioners in eight districts. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that major efforts are being made for the welfare of girls in the state and these efforts are yielding positive results.

The Chief Minister said that necessary amendments were being made in the rules to change the existing standards of physical test for the recruitment of women in the fire staff. The Chief Minister said that it was sad that the previous governments did nothing to change these rules as these leaders had no concern for the people and their problems. Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that Punjab would be the first state in the country to recruit girls in the fire staff.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has set up a dedicated Road Safety Force, the first of its kind in the country, to save precious lives and enhance safety in road accidents on the State and National Highways. 1597 newly recruited personnel with special training are working as the backbone of this force and they have been provided with 144 vehicles equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. Since its inception in February, the force has saved about 1300 precious lives in road accidents over the last year. Besides, cash and articles worth Rs. 90 lakh of those injured in accidents have been safely returned. The force is deployed on 4200 km of highways. Apart from patrolling its assigned area, the force is also working to prevent traffic violations.

The Chief Minister called upon the youth to work hard here instead of going abroad in search of employment to fulfil their dreams. He said that the state government is making every effort to provide maximum employment opportunities to the youth. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he had promised that the youth of the state would come back and for this his government is making great efforts.

The Chief Minister said he was happy to report that our sincere efforts have started yielding positive results and our youth are becoming active participants in the socio-economic progress of the state. “It gives me immense satisfaction to know that this time there has been a big jump in the number of youth taking admission in educational institutions in Punjab. This indicates the success of our welfare policies due to which the youth are beginning to come back,” said Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government was working hard for the progress of the state and prosperity of the people as the people of the state had reposed unwavering faith in them. He said that the previous rulers of the state had stabbed the people in the back, leaving the people disappointed. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the wise and brave people of the state had ousted these leaders from power, who have now gone into political oblivion and have become victims of factionalism within political parties.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has so far given government jobs to 44,700 youth in various departments. He said that the entire recruitment process has been done in a fair manner. He said that the youth’s faith in the policies and intentions of the state government has increased, due to which they are staying here and preparing for government jobs, giving up their intention of going abroad.

The Chief Minister also said that the state government is opening eight hi-tech coaching centres to train students for competitive examinations. Bhagwant Mann said that these centres will provide training to the youth to pass the UPSC examination so that our youth can serve in high positions in the state and the country.

Expressing satisfaction over the faith reposed by people in ‘Bhagwant Mann Sarkar Aapde Dwar’, the Chief Minister said that now people do not have to make rounds of Chandigarh to get their work done as the government itself is coming to them and redressing the grievances on the spot. The Chief Minister said that no government had taken such a step earlier. He said that this is not only helping in resolving the problems of the people but is also proving to be an effective platform to get feedback at the grassroots level about the policies of the state government.

Extending his heartfelt greetings to Punjabis living in the country and abroad on the occasion of the holy festival of Raksha Bandhan, the Chief Minister said that this festival is a sacred festival of deep love between brother and sister, mutual relationship and the promise of protecting the sisters. The Chief Minister said that this festival is an occasion of happiness for all of us filled with traditional social values of love, peace and harmony which makes us a better human being. Bhagwant Singh Mann called upon the people to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan with great pomp and show and wished that this festival brings mutual love and harmony in the society.

On this occasion, newly appointed supervisor Navdeep Kaur thanked the Chief Minister wholeheartedly for adopting a transparent process for giving government jobs and said that with this job, her and her parents’ dream has come true. Navdeep Kaur further said that during the current regime of Punjab government, not only she, but her brother has also got a government job. On the occasion of Rakshabandhan, Navdeep Kaur also tied a Rakhi to the Chief Minister and Lok Sabha member Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer as a mark of gratitude.

On this occasion, various dignitaries including Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, Lok Sabha member from Sangrur Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer were present.
