Delhi Mayor’s reaction after the death of 3 IAS students, action will be taken on coaching centers

Posted on July 28, 2024 By NewsTodayLive Team

Delhi IAS candidate death update: Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Sunday ordered action against coaching centres operating in basements in the city. This order by Oberoi came just hours after three civil service aspirants died due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching centre building in Old Rajinder Nagar (ORN) area of central Delhi due to heavy rains.

What did Shaili Oberoi say in the statement?

Oberoi said in a statement that coaching centres running commercial activities in basements violate building bylaws and are not in accordance with the norms. Strict action should be taken against them immediately. Shelly Oberoi has directed MCD officials to start an immediate investigation to find out whether any municipal body official is responsible for this incident.

Shaili said in her statement, “An immediate investigation will be conducted to find out the responsibility of any MCD official for this tragedy. If any official is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him.”

What is the matter?

On Saturday night, three UPSC civil services aspirants, identified as Tania Soni, Shreya Yadav (both 25) and Naveen Delvin (28), died after they were trapped for hours in the basement of a coaching centre due to sudden water inflow.

After the matter came to light, the students started protesting and demanded strict action against the accused. They say that if it rains for half an hour, the water level here gets filled up to the knees.
