Infrastructure: The Backbone of Development
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Saturday, November 8, 2025, that infrastructure plays a pivotal role in the economic growth of developed nations and that India is rapidly advancing on its development trajectory. Speaking at the Banaras railway station in Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, the Prime Minister flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains.
“In developed countries around the world, the primary reason for economic growth has been robust infrastructure. In every nation that has achieved significant progress, infrastructure development has been the driving force,” Mr. Modi noted.
He elaborated that infrastructure is not merely about constructing large bridges or highways. “Whenever such systems are developed, they spark overall growth and development in that region,” he added.
India’s Rapid Progress in Connectivity
Highlighting India’s ongoing development, the Prime Minister remarked, “With a growing number of Vande Bharat trains and increasing international flight connections, these developments are directly linked to economic growth. India is advancing rapidly along this path.” He further stated that trains like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and Amrit Bharat are laying the foundation for a modern, efficient Indian Railways.
Pilgrimage Sites and Economic Contribution
PM Modi also underscored the importance of pilgrimage sites as centers of spirituality and economic activity. He observed that development work in Uttar Pradesh over the past 11 years has significantly enhanced these sites. “Devotees visiting pilgrimage destinations in the state have contributed thousands of crores to the local economy. Our government’s aim is to make visiting Varanasi and staying here a unique and memorable experience,” he said.
Key Attendees and Train Routes
The flagging-off ceremony was attended by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The newly launched Vande Bharat Express trains will operate on the following routes:
- Banaras-Khajuraho
- Lucknow-Saharanpur
- Firozpur-Delhi
- Ernakulam-Bengaluru
Impact of Semi-High-Speed Trains
According to officials, these semi-high-speed trains will reduce travel time between major stations, enhance regional mobility, boost tourism, and stimulate economic activity across India. The Banaras-Khajuraho Vande Bharat, in particular, will connect prominent cultural and religious destinations, including Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Chitrakoot, strengthening both travel convenience and local economic growth.
