In my review, the OnePlus 15 stands out as nearly flawless, surpassing expectations in key areas like display quality, battery life, and overall performance. While other phones may excel in one or two metrics, the OnePlus 15 delivers across the board. But what about the Galaxy S26 Ultra? Could Samsung achieve a similar level of perfection?
OnePlus 15 Focuses on Durability and Battery Life
The OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 15 have set the standard for durability in mainstream smartphones, surviving extreme conditions such as jets of hot water. Samsung phones are also robust, but they fall slightly short of the OnePlus standard.
Samsung’s Durability
Samsung devices like the Galaxy S25 Ultra are highly water-resistant, even accommodating a submerged S Pen. However, they don’t quite reach the extreme durability offered by the OnePlus 15. While most users won’t test this with a dishwasher, the comparison highlights OnePlus’ edge in ruggedness.
Battery Performance
Battery life is where OnePlus shines the most, thanks to solid-state battery technology, giving the OnePlus 15 26.5 hours of screen time. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra also impresses with over 18.5 hours of usage, outperforming almost all previous Android and iPhone models, but it still falls short of the OnePlus benchmark.
Charging speed also gives OnePlus an advantage, with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, leaving Samsung playing catch-up. To compete, Samsung would need a dramatic increase in charging performance.
Areas Where Samsung Can Improve
Samsung’s hardware is strong, but there are several areas that need refinement:
Outdated Design
The Galaxy S25 Ultra carries forward a design reminiscent of the Galaxy Note series. For the S26, a fresh, modern design would help Samsung compete more effectively.
Software Overload
Samsung’s OneUI software is feature-rich but overwhelming. Tools like Samsung DeX and multitasking enhancements are excellent for productivity. However, multiple redundant apps—two browsers, two photo galleries, and two app stores—create confusion and reduce usability.
Streamlining for Perfection
To create a truly perfect phone, Samsung should focus on refinement rather than copying competitors. Cutting redundant features, reducing software bloat, and maintaining the best hardware innovations could make the Galaxy S26 Ultra an outstanding device.
The Path to a Perfect Phone
Samsung doesn’t need to emulate OnePlus to achieve perfection. OnePlus leads in durability, battery life, and charging, areas where Samsung is already strong but not unbeatable. By simplifying software, modernizing design, and leveraging existing hardware strengths, Samsung could unlock the perfect smartphone hidden within the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
