Braving Stage 3 Cancer with Positivity
Last month, celebrated actor and former beauty queen Nafisa Ali Sodhi took to Instagram to provide an inspiring update on her health. Diagnosed with stage 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer in November 2018, Nafisa has been courageously fighting the disease. Despite the challenges, she remains a beacon of strength and optimism.
Embracing the Bald Look with Confidence
As treatment progressed, Nafisa embraced a significant milestone—losing her hair due to chemotherapy. She recently posted a heartfelt image of herself proudly sporting a bald head, accompanied by her close friend Gaby. Her caption read, “Positive power … with my best friend Gaby,” highlighting her unwavering spirit during this difficult time.
A Family Moment Amidst Treatment
In a touching display of acceptance, Nafisa shared another emotional moment where her grandchildren helped her cut her hair. This act transformed a daunting necessity into a loving family ritual. Earlier, she also posted a photo showing her hairbrush filled with fallen strands, captioned, “Here goes my Chemotherapy locks … soon I will be bald 😊,” further showcasing her resilience.
A Multifaceted Career in Film and Politics
Many recognize Nafisa Ali from her memorable role as Shivani in the 2007 film Life in a… Metro. However, her illustrious career spans much more. She made her debut opposite Shashi Kapoor in Shyam Benegal’s 1979 classic Junoon and later appeared alongside stars like Amitabh Bachchan in Bewafaa (1998), and with Dharmendra in Guzaarish (2010) and Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011).
Beyond cinema, Nafisa ventured into politics, contesting the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2009 from Kolkata and Lucknow. She initially joined the Indian National Congress after a stint with the Samajwadi Party and, in 2021, aligned with the All India Trinamool Congress ahead of the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly election.
Personal Life and Support System
Nafisa is married to Colonel Ravinder Singh Sodhi, a Polo player and Arjuna awardee. Together, they have three children—Armama, Pia, and Ajit—who form her strong personal support network during her health battle.
