Honda Amaze Gets Cheaper by Nearly ₹2 Lakh with GST Cut and Festive Discounts
Massive Benefits on Honda’s Entry-Level Sedan
Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has announced major price benefits on its entry-level sedan, the Honda Amaze, making it significantly more affordable ahead of the festive season. With the implementation of GST 2.0 from September 22, and additional festive discounts, customers can save up to ₹1.92 lakh on select variants.
Up to ₹95,500 Tax Savings and ₹97,200 Discount
According to information shared on Honda’s official website, the 2nd-generation Amaze now benefits from a tax reduction of ₹72,800, while the latest 3rd-generation Amaze sees a GST savings of up to ₹95,500. Additionally, Honda is offering festive discounts up to ₹97,200 on the sedan this month, bringing the total benefit close to ₹2 lakh.
Why the Price Drop? GST 2.0 Comes Into Effect
From September 22, the Indian government will roll out GST 2.0, which reduces GST on small petrol and hybrid cars to 18%. This applies to petrol, CNG, and hybrid cars with engine capacity below 1200cc and length not exceeding 4 meters. For diesel vehicles, the 18% GST rate applies to those with engines under 1500cc and similar length limits.
This policy directly benefits compact sedans like the Honda Amaze, which qualifies under the new norms and thus sees a significant price reduction.
Updated Features in the New Honda Amaze
The third-generation Honda Amaze is available in three variants — V, VX, and ZX. The top ZX variant includes advanced features such as:
- LED projector headlamps
- Push-button start/stop
- Remote engine start (CVT variants)
- Automatic climate control
- Wireless charging
- Rear AC vents
- Lane-watch camera
- Automatic headlamps and wipers
- Optional seat covers with ventilation and massage features
These upgrades, along with the refreshed exterior and interior, have made the new Amaze more appealing to compact sedan buyers.
Powertrain and Mileage
The updated Amaze is powered by a single 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. It comes with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Fuel efficiency stands at 18.65 km/l for the manual variant and 19.46 km/l for the automatic version.
Honda now also offers a 360-degree camera on the Amaze, enhancing its premium feel and parking assistance features.
Major Safety Improvements
The previous-gen Amaze had received only a 2-star crash test rating, mainly due to missing features like curtain airbags and electronic stability control (ESC). However, the new model aims for a 5-star rating with 28 safety features, including:
- ESC
- Lane-watch camera for blind-spot monitoring
- Emergency stop signal
- Standard 6 airbags
- 3-point seatbelts for all 5 passengers
- Seatbelt reminders
GST 2.0 Tax Structure Explained
Under GST 2.0, the tax structure has been reshaped as follows:
For Small and Hybrid Cars:
- Petrol, CNG, Hybrid (≤1200cc, ≤4m): 18% GST
- Diesel (≤1500cc, ≤4m): 18% GST
For Luxury and Mid-Size Vehicles:
- Petrol (>1200cc) and Diesel (>1500cc): 40% GST
- Applies to UVs, SUVs, MUVs, MPVs, XUVs with >170mm ground clearance
While the 40% GST may seem high, it is actually a reduction from the earlier structure, where luxury cars attracted 28% GST plus a 22% cess, totaling 50%. Under GST 2.0, the cess has been removed, reducing the overall burden by 10%.
With the combined benefits of reduced GST and significant festive discounts, the Honda Amaze now becomes one of the most value-for-money sedans in its segment. Customers looking for a compact, feature-rich, and fuel-efficient car can save up to ₹2 lakh, making this the perfect time to make a purchase.
