The bid was finalized on November 26 through an online auction hosted on the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The Ministry conducts an online bidding session every week between 1 PM and 5 PM, allowing individuals to bid for exclusive vehicle numbers. The auction for HR88B8888 began at ₹50,000, attracting significant attention from enthusiasts and collectors.

Understanding the Registration Number

The registration number HR88B8888 carries specific information about the vehicle’s origin:

• HR: Represents the state of Haryana.
• 88: Denotes the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or district, in this case, Charkhi Dadri.
• B: Indicates the specific vehicle series code assigned by the RTO.

Businessman from Haryana Bags the Number

The successful bidder is a businessman from the Badhra sub-division of Charkhi Dadri, according to PTI. The auction required a participation fee of ₹1,000 along with a security deposit of ₹10,000. Winners are given five days to pay the full bid amount, after which the number is officially allotted.

Bidder’s Perspective

Hailing from Bhiwani village, the businessman admitted he had not anticipated such a high bid. “I had no fixed amount in mind, I simply liked the number and went ahead,” he said. He has not yet decided which vehicle will carry the prized number and mentioned, “We are figuring that out.”

Entrepreneurial Background

The successful bidder runs a transport business and a software company. He is also developing a transport-related mobile app for commercial transportation, which is currently in its early stages. The number’s purchase, he said, has generated far more attention than he had expected.
