Pricing Error Briefly Appears on Starlink’s India Website
Starlink addressed concerns on Monday after a configuration glitch temporarily displayed service pricing on its India website. The company confirmed that the issue has been resolved and clarified that the published figures “do not reflect what the cost of Starlink service will be in India”.
Incorrect Prices Accidentally Published
Earlier in the day, Starlink’s India webpage briefly went live showing a monthly subscription price of ₹8,600. Additionally, new customers were shown a hardware kit cost of ₹34,000, suggesting that the company had begun accepting local orders. This prompted widespread speculation about Starlink’s upcoming launch in the country.
Official Clarification From Starlink Leadership
Lauren Dreyer, Vice President and Senior Director of Starlink Business Operations at SpaceX, addressed the situation on X. She emphasized that the Starlink India website is not officially live, no pricing has been finalized, and the company is not accepting orders from Indian users. She explained that a configuration error revealed placeholder test data and added that the team “quickly fixed the glitch.”
Focus on Securing Regulatory Approvals
Dreyer expressed Starlink’s enthusiasm to serve Indian customers with its high-speed satellite internet service. She highlighted that teams are currently working on securing the remaining government approvals required to officially activate services and launch the website in India.
Starlink’s Key Features and Technology Advantage
The company continues to promote features that differentiate its offering, especially in regions where terrestrial broadband infrastructure is inconsistent. These include simple plug-and-play installation, over 99.9% uptime, resilience in harsh weather conditions, and the absence of data caps.
Hiring Activity Signals Preparation for Indian Operations
Recent job postings indicate that SpaceX is actively gearing up for Starlink’s entry into India. Toward the end of October, the company opened four roles based in Bengaluru: Payments Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst, and Tax Manager. The recruitment drive is positioned as part of Starlink’s broader global expansion efforts.
Maharashtra Becomes First State to Formally Collaborate With Starlink
In a pioneering move, the Maharashtra government recently signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited. The collaboration aims to deliver satellite-based internet services to government institutions, rural communities, and critical public infrastructure across underserved and remote districts such as Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Dharashiv, and Washim.
The LoI signing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and State IT Minister Ashish Shelar. Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed pride in Maharashtra becoming the first Indian state to partner with Starlink, noting the company’s global prominence and its extensive network of communication satellites.
