YMCA Total Tennis Championship 2008, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 5th December 2008: Chandigarh December 5, 2008: - The Fourth day of the ongoing YMCA Total Tennis Championship, which is being played at Total Tennis Academy ’s YMCA Sector 11 Chandigarh premises, saw three finalists today. First finalist of the day was Sachin Kumar whose opponent gave him walkover in the semifinal because of an injury and in the other semifinal Ranjodh Singh got the same gift when his opponent second seed Nishat Eqbal of West Bengal conceded the match when down 1-3. Now Ranjodh will face Sachin Kumar Ranjodh Singh in the finals to be played tomorrow at 9:00 AM. Other finalists decided are in the boys under 10 section. Both the top two seeded players proved their seeding right by reaching into the finals stage. In the first semifinals, it was a smooth sailing for the top-seeded Sumit Pal Singh of J&K; as he thrashed his opponent Sameer Vats in straight sets without much difficulty by conceding just two games in 45 minutes. The score was read in the favour of the top-seeded Sumit 4-0, 4-2. But, it was very tough for the second-seeded Param Pun of CLTA, as he had to save seven match points against the fourth-seeded Paramveer Bajwa of YPS Patiala. In the first set, it was Param Pun who played excellent tennis winning the first set by 4-1, but in the second set Paramveer came back strongly leveling the match at one set all by winning the second with an identical score at 4-1. Then in the third and the final set, Paramveer showed his class from baseline. At one time, Paramveer was leading 3-1 and had three match points before conceding errors and gifted the match in the favour of Param Pun. The final score was read in the favour of Param Pun 4-1, 1-4, 5-3.

In the Boys-under-18 Category, Amardeep Singh and Aviraj Kamboj will face each other in the finals by beating Sunil Kaushik and Saurav, respectively. Amardeep had to fight for over two hours in beating his practice partner Sunil Kaushik in three very well fought sets. Amardeep beats Sunil 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Aviraj Kamboj beats Saurav in straight sets with ease at 6-1, 6-2 in 40 minutes.

In the Boys-under-16 Category, Parminder Singh, Ravisher Singh, Andrew Pradeep and Aviral Kamboj reached to the semifinals stage by beating their respective opponents with ease. Parminder Singh beats Ameer Singh 8-2, Ravisher Singh beats Arshbul and Aulakh 8-6, Andrew Pardeep beats Nishat Eqbal by 8-6 and Aviraj Kamboj blanked Shubham Vij by 8-0.

In the Boys-under-12 age category Sachin Kumar, Param Pun, Utkarsh Khosla and Paramveer Bajwa reached to the semifinals beating Sahil Rawat, Divyansh Pandey, Sumit Pal Singh and Vishu, respectively.
