Chandigarh, March 4 : An art workshop on 'Global Warming, Nature and Enviornment' was organised at the Chandigarh Muesum here today.
The workshop is part of the Indian leg of the International campaign titled 'Young thoughts about Tellus' initiatied by Tellus Art to create awareness about global warming among children and young adults through the medium of paintings
The workshop saw a participation of approximately 100 students from various educational insitutions in and around Chandigarh and certain NGO's participated as well. Twelve Swedish and nine Punjabi artists were present throughout the day to provide valuable inputs to the participating students.
"Young Thoughts about Tellus is a four-vive year project aimed at making children conscious of the positive change they can bring to our enviornment and also serves as a joint forum to artists from different cultures to promote art, friendship, and understanding between them, " says Mr. Ajmer Sandhu, the chief organizer of the
workshop and member of the core committee of the TellusArt Organization.
The paintings of all the participating students will be carried to Sweden and two artists would be selected by the Swedish jury to be part of the art exhibition to be held in Scandinavia in June 2009.
"There are many talented artists all around the world, burning with a desire to make a difference. It is our endeavour to spread their message on a global level," adds Ms. Namarta Tendon, another member of core committee.
"Children have a vivid imagination and it was not only enlighteneing for us to witness their thoughts about the changing environment through their drawings but provided us an assurance that they are conscious fo the ill-effects of the worldwide climatic change," says Charlotte Ronnlund, Swedish artist.
As a part of the Indian journey, the Swedish artists would be spending a day at the Victoria Continental Inn in Dharampur, Kasauli to capture their Indian experiences on canvas on March 06, 2009.
TellusArt is a non-government organisation committed towards highlighting, through the power of art, the issues that command collective human attention. The campaign was started in Sweden in September 2008 and has completed its Indian journey with the workshop in Chandigarh. It will now move to Scandinavia followed by Europe and Canada.
