Success for Generation X

By Jaskaran Singh
Where today everyone seeks success and greed for success is increasing
day to day, the slang surroundings successful people on television, and other media, the lavish lifestyles and the material luxuries that these people possess, drives
people relentlessly on in search of the elusive Everest of success.
So, what does success mean to the youngsters of present time? In an interesting survey, the concept of success seems overwhelmingly one that is not dependent
upon the material factors like money and fame.
Family, parents and friends play an important role in ushering in success as well as in the significant slot of role models. While hard work is definitely seen as sure shot avenue to success, what is worrying
is that the highest number opted for other means as a way to achieve success. As India is a religious country, very few youngsters believe of having a hand of God in their success.
But when there are conditions in which success is to be achieved at any cost (say by hook or crook) then the results prove that honesty still plays a major role in shaping youth's future, behaviour and attitude.
Overall, it is clear that Generation 'X' does not believe that a huge bank balance, many admirers, photographfs on the front page of the newspapers or the magazines are signs of success for them. Rather, a loving and supportive family, a feeling of contentment, and
life honestly led are considered to be the hallmarks of the successful individual.
